Nature Play On Vancouver Island

Nature Kindergarten On Vancouver Island

Dear Parents, It is hard to believe that tomorrow is November!! Miss Minty begins her practicum on Monday and will be gradually taking over more of the teaching program. I will continue to be in the room, supporting both Miss Minty and the children. This is a wonderful opportunity for me to strengthen my relationship with the children and offer support for even more creative invitations through art.  Mrs King and I have applied for a Art Grant inviting our colleagues to delve deeper into an art medium with their students. This will provide funding for me to purchase high quality art materials and tools for your child.  I have been collecting literacy assessment and sharing with families, on FreshGrade, as each child is completed. This information will inform my program as I plan the new literacy activities for November/December.  Our November Show and Tell Schedule will go home on Monday and begin next week. This should provide families with time to support their child with this very p...
We have transitioned to our Daily Flow as the children are showing independence and have continued to build stamina. This is always a joyful time for me as I am able to increase the time for both exploration and our morning soft starts. These two important parts of our day are opportunities for children to build strong relationships, expand their oral language, use their imagination with open ended loose parts and pave the way for story writing. When we return from our nature mornings the children transition independently to the first classroom activity which is our soft start. Presently most mornings begin with Story Play. We have organized different settings in small boxes and tubs for the children which are already set up around the room as provocations. However there are also extra resources on the story play shelf which the children browse for extra resources to enrich their stories. I have posted a short video on my instagram account. Follow the link if you would like to see ho...

Dear Parents, Please expect to receive an email on Sunday afternoon confirming our offsite schedule for the coming week. I have been collecting walking permission as well as confirming parent volunteers to facilitate our offsite program. I think that we will begin with Tues/Wed/Thurs as our offsite mornings as I expect the forest and seashore to be busy with other classes. Usually we would be taking the city bus to Neck Point where there is a beautiful forest and choice of beaches however due to COVID we will remain close to the school. If you did not return the form on Friday confirming you are able to support the program but would like to help this week please email me by Saturday night at lmccaw@sd68.bc.ca . I will be organizing the schedule on Sunday morning and sending the family email. We are permitted two parent volunteers at a time. The children have been writing every day. Once a month I will keep a writing sample for your child’s portfolio which will come home in Jun...
