Nature Play On Vancouver Island

Nature Kindergarten On Vancouver Island

Connecting with New Kindergarten Families

It's that time of year again when our early learning team invite upcoming kindergarten parents to join us for a hour. Our goal is to provide parents with information on a typical day in our nature play based kindergarten program, which includes an outdoor program. We also want to ensure that families have time to collect the gear that their child will need such as a hiking back backpack, muddy buddies, water proof boots, merino warm layers, hats, mittens, light containers, light water bottle, etc.

We provide a short slideshow sharing highlights of the nature program, set up a table with outdoor gear, learning kits, our wonder wagon (and its materials). We provide families with a brochure which includes the gear, lunch kits, water bottles and photos of our outdoor classroom. We also provide a MEC backpack for families who need support which I purchased using a grant from the Vancouver Sun.

We want to ensure that families know that they are welcome to join our program as a guest, supervisor, to share any hobbies or outdoor experiences with our class.

One of the best outcomes is that the children will be prepared for the outdoor program, as well as, parents understand that regardless of which kindergarten teacher their child will have, all of the children will be participating in an nature program.
