Nature Play On Vancouver Island

Nature Kindergarten On Vancouver Island

Welcome To Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten! As our school year begins I know that you have many questions regarding your child's school experience. I will attempt to answer most of the basic questions here. If you need to contact me please use my email address lmccaw@sd68.bc.ca, put a note in your child's back and forth folder or phone the school secretary. If I am not available she will put a note in my mailbox to return your call.

Birthdays
In this class we would like everyone to feel special. On your child's birthday he/she will decorate a birthday letter for our math wall and receive a gift bag. If you wish to send along a treat please do so; cookies and mini cupcakes seem to be popular. Summer birthdays will be celebrated in the spring. Party invites will go home in the communication folder.

Communication Folders
I will provide your family with a communication folder which will come home most days. Expect to see school notices, student work, birthday party invites and forms.

Class news will be shared electronically each week.

Cooking
We usually cook on Friday mornings and love to have parents join us for the activity. Expect to cook with two students. The recipe and ingredients will be provided.

Family Participation
You are always welcome and appreciated both onsite and offsite. I prefer that you wait until October so that I can establish routines and get to know your child.

Family Reading
Families are invited to join us beginning in October every Friday morning at 8:45 for about 15 minutes to enjoy reading in the classroom. Siblings are welcome!!

Family Pot Luck Lunch
Once monthly we celebrate family with a pot luck lunch in our classroom. The date will be on our monthly calendar.

Home Reading Program
Beginning in October I will send home a family reading book bag. Please return each Thursday. A new bag will be sent home on Friday. I am looking for a parent helper to run this program.

Show and Telll
The news clues program will commence in October. A separate information letter will come home mid September.

Nature Program
I will host a family session in September to review the Nature Program. We will not be offsite during September and plan to begin in October.

Expect us to be offsite four mornings a week. I am hoping that we will have two half days at Neck Point and two mornings at either Departure Bay Seashore or Woodstream Park during the fall and then again in the spring. The rest of the year we will be either at the DB Seashore or Woodstream. A weekly offsite schedule will be emailed each Sunday morning.

This program is parent supported. Parent supervisors usually sign up for one month at a time so that the schedule can be organized. You may sign up for as many or as few mornings as fits your family schedule. Extended family are very welcome to help with supervision.

I am looking forward to working with your family :)
